New Braunfels PD: 2 Houston-area men arrested after ‘bank jugging’ robbery
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Two Houston-area men are facing aggravated robbery charges after the New Braunfels Police Department says they followed a woman home from a bank and robbed her in her driveway.
The robbery happened Thursday morning as the woman arrived home and got out of her vehicle. Police say one man assaulted her and struggled with her over her purse before he and another suspect fled in a small Chevrolet SUV.
Investigators used license plate readers to locate the vehicle. Police say both suspects ran when officers attempted to arrest them.
One suspect was quickly captured, but the other ran into a wooded area and was later found with the help of K9 and drone units.
Police identified the suspects as 22-year-old Mekhi McKinstry and 20-year-old Christian Woods. Both are charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest. Additional charges could be filed.
Investigators say the case is an example of “bank jugging,” in which criminals watch people withdraw money from a bank or ATM and follow them to another location to commit a robbery.
The woman was not hospitalized and is expected to be OK.
McKinstry and Woods are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
